Volunteer for Barnstaple Carnival 2020!

If you’re over 18 and want to help us deliver a great community event, we’d love you to join our team! Whatever you enjoy doing and however much time you can commit, there’s a volunteer role for you.

Young people (between 16 and 18) are also welcomed to get involved as stewards or as part of our logistics team! We’ll just need a parent or guardian’s permission.

Our volunteers are sourced from all over North Devon, form as far afield as Torrington, Lynton and Bude! Regardless of where you live, what you do or how you’d like to help, we appreciate your help in keeping our float wheels turning!

Why Volunteer?volunteer

There are lots of benefits to volunteering and supporting a cause for your local community! Whether it’s confidence building, expanding your experience or just to see how we do things.

We’ll provide you with all the training and information you need to help you on your way and try to accommodate as best as possible.

Whatever your skill set or reason for joining us, you can expect to have great fun and work with great people!

Who Can Volunteer?

Anyone can volunteer and you don’t need any qualifications or prior training. For students and young people, we ask that you’re 16 or over and in school year 11. You’ll also need a parent or guardian’s permission.

Community groups, schools, colleges, youth clubs and other organisations are also welcome to volunteer! In this case, we’ll ask for a single liaison with your organisation and begin guiding you through the short process.

We believe that everybody should have the right to help and support Barnstaple Fair Carnival, no matter what their background. As such, we’re happy to be as flexible as possible to fit around you. Just let us know what you need, and we’ll do our best to make it happen!

What Can I Do?

90% of our volunteer roles are street stewarding positions. These comprise two segments:

1) Static Stewards form part of a front-line team, working with the crowds, delivering public information and helping smooth running.

2) Mobile Stewards support the “boots on the ground”, navigating articulated lorries through narrow streets and providing support where needed across the event site!

When is Barnstaple Fair Carnival? volunteer2

Barnstaple Fair Carnival is held, by tradition, the Saturday following Barnstaple Fair. This makes it Saturday 21st September 2019. Key timings throughout the day can be found under the ‘Route and Times’ tab of this website.

When do I need to commit?

To join our team, you’ll need to attend a short induction session prior to the main event. This will be on Saturday 14th September. It’ll give you all the training you’ll need and be a good opportunity to meet your fellow volunteers.

Our management team will always be around should you have any questions and we can make sure everything’s set before the big day! But we’ll let you know more about this nearer the time.

We also ask that you can be available for at least 3 hours on Carnival Day for the main event. This includes time for refreshments and a short brief before starting your turn of duty.
